The Rule of Won

Synopsis:

Meet Caleb Dunne, slacker extraordinaire. Caleb prefers to slide through life with the minimal amount of effort, so he isn’t too jazzed when his overachieving girlfriend, Vicky, convinces him to join a new school club based on a controversial book, The Rule of Won. Slackers don’t join school clubs, do they? As The Rule gains popularity, though, the club members start to gain power within the school. From dark posts on the club’s online message board to all-out threats in the hallways, it becomes apparent that the group is getting out of control. For slacker Caleb, though, the only thing worse than doing something is not doing something.

Review:

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I started to read it and I just couldn't put it down. I have to admit, I wasn't all that excited about reading it...I didn't like the cover at all. But this is the prime of example about how you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. When I actually cracked it open I was met by a fabulous stringing of words...the story just flowed so well; I wasn't left with an holes in the plot.

I loved each character, as they were all different and each had a different story to their life. Finding books to read in the YA genre that is from a guys point of view can be hard but this is definitely one that is worth the searching. Caleb, the main character, is just the typical teenager...a slacker extraordinaire. But at the same time, he isn't. He genuinely cares about the people he meets in his life, at least in the glimpse of it we get. By the end of the book you are wanting to know more about is life and you just want to know how things turn out for him in the long run.

Overall, I would say this is a great book. Yea, I didn't like the cover all too much, but what is in between the cover is a superb story. One that I sure couldn't put down and one I am sure many other won't be able to either. Stefan Petrucha did a fantastic job creating the highschool and each character...the cult was just a little something extra that put the book over the edge. He has a way with words that just wants you to continue reading and take in everything her says...funny since that is kind of what happened to those who read the Rule of Won.

This one I liked. I've recommended it for a reading circle, because it would make for great discussion.
