Must Love Black

Synopsis:
NANNY FOR 10-YR-OLD TWINS.
MAINE COAST.
OWN ROOM & GENEROUS SALARY.
MUST LOVE BLACK.

Must love black? Sounds like a coffee-loving, seclusion-seeking goth girl's dream job. Philippa isn't fazed by the fog-enshrouded mansion on a cliff, the weirdest twins on the planet, or even the rumors about ghosts, because when she meets the estate's hot gardener, Philippa's pretty sure she's found her dream boy, too. Too bad Geoff's already taken by a girl whose wardrobe is head-to-toe pink. Still, Philippa can't get Geoff out of her head. What will it take to lure him to the dark side?

Review:

I was excited to read this book when I bought it. But once I started reading it, I was a bit let down. I loved the main character, Philippa, as she was spunky and didn't really take crap from anyone. It was the plot I am a bit on edge about....I was left with too many holes.

Why did the children love black so much? Why did their father's partner control everything? What is it with the noises and the ghosts? Was their mother still there watching over them? What happened between her father, her stepmother, and her?

These are the kind of questions I am left with. I don't know if there is going to be another installment of this book, but something tells me their isn't. Either way, it wasn't so bad that I would say never to pick it up...no...

But overall I was just left disappointed by what I got. Phillipa was well defined, but the rest was lacking...I didn't feel connected to any of the other characters, not even the twins. I would recommend picking up this book and reading it...as my opinion isn't the only one that matters. Who knows, this might be one of the best books one of you reads...I guess I have just read to many to be able to say that.

Aww, I really loved this one. I think the cover did it a huge injustice though. It kind of set you up for a goth, fluff read, but really it has some deep insights into grief and life.

Yeah, the cover looks great--it seems like the kind of book I'd like to like. Oh well.

Exactly how I felt. I think a lot of the students who pick it up are vaguely disappointed by the disconnect between the title/cover and the contents. I've been selling it as more of a mystery. Should tell somebody that there is a demand for general goth lifestyle wannabe books!
