Lily Dale : Awakening

Synopsis:
Calla thought that her boyfriend breaking up with her in a text message was the worst thing that could ever happen to her. But just two weeks later, her mother died in a freak accident, and life as she knew it was completely over. With her father heading to California for a new job, they decide that Calla should spend a few weeks with the grandmother she barely knows while he gets them set up.

To Calla’s shock, her mother’s hometown of Lily Dale is a town full of psychics—including her grandmother. Suddenly, the fact that her mother never talked about her past takes on more mysterious overtones. The longer she stays in town, the stranger things become, as Calla starts to experience unusual and unsettling events that lead her to wonder whether she has inherited her grandmother’s unique gift. Is it this gift that is making her suspect that her mother’s death was more than an accident, or is it just an overactive imagination? Staying in Lily Dale is the only way to uncover the truth. But will Calla be able to deal with what she learns about her mother's past and her own future?

Review:
I didn't really know what to make of this book. I love books that are based around the supernatural and psychics which is what I though this was going to be. But it was kind of like a prequel to the next book and I felt like I was just left at the end. That being said, I loved the characters, mostly the main character, Calla. She is going through a rough time because of the death of her mother and has dreams regarding her mother almost nightly. It is a little sad, but then her grandmother pops into the story and just makes you giggle.

Lily Dale sounds like a place I would love to live. The way the town is described in the book is fantastic and the people that Calla meets seem so colorful. Though the two guys, Blue and Jacy, seem a little out of place...something was off about them. Evangeline seems like a girl I would love to be friends with, she is just so nice and really does want to be Calla's friend.

I guess I enjoyed the book, the ending left me feeling a bit mad because I felt it was just getting good. I know that is what cliffhangers do...but there really wasn't another peak to the story. I definitely need to pick up the next book, because I can't just stop reading about Calla. So if you do want to pick up this book, which I think you should, be sure to pick up both...you will regret it if you don't.

Man, I keep finding my way back to this book, & I kind of want to read it, but I'm more into romance ... I'm not sure if I'd like it. Still, this review makes me think about it.

:]
